Experience

Experience behind the ideas on this site.

My work has moved from building software in a startup to shaping product direction and developer-facing platforms. The common thread is learning how technical systems, product choices and organisations constrain one another.

Developer-facing platforms as product surfaces

My product scope covered API performance and reliability, authentication and authorization, Subscriptions — events, messages and changes — observability, and developer experience.

I worked with the teams responsible for these capabilities, focusing on how customers, partners and developers could build on the platform and understand its behaviour in production.

Customers built and ran their commerce integrations through the platform’s APIs, making performance and reliability part of their day-to-day operations.

AI capabilities beyond the prototype

My current work explores how APIs can support AI and agent-driven use cases while preserving reliability, scalability and product coherence. The difficult part begins when a promising interaction has to become a capability others can depend on.

Working across Product & Engineering

Building web applications and distributed systems gave me the technical foundation for later product work. Since then, much of my role has involved working with engineering leadership on roadmaps, constraints and the different risks each discipline sees.

Product direction under startup constraints

I joined as an early engineer, moved into product management as the company grew, and later became a partner and shareholder. That path made product direction, delivery constraints and long-term company consequences part of the same set of decisions.

Independent work

A selected part of my professional practice.

Alongside my product roles, I occasionally work independently with software teams on focused Product & Engineering reviews and advisory engagements.

I also contribute to selected expert interviews and industry research when my experience with the product or platform being studied is relevant.
